Start Small
Big tasks can feel scary — so break them into small steps. Starting small helps your brain warm up and makes studying feel easier.
- Study for 5–10 minutes to get started
- Do one page, one paragraph, or one problem
- Set a tiny goal: “I’ll just begin”
Use a Timer
Short study bursts help you stay focused without getting tired. This is called the “Pomodoro” method.
- Study for 10–15 minutes
- Take a 2–3 minute break
- Repeat 3–4 times
- Take a longer break after a few rounds
Use Active Learning
Active learning means doing something with the information — not just reading it. This helps your brain remember better.
- Teach the idea to someone else
- Write a quick summary
- Make flashcards
- Draw a picture or diagram
Memory Tricks That Work
These simple strategies help you remember information more easily.
- Use acronyms (like “HOMES” for the Great Lakes)
- Make up a funny sentence to remember facts
- Connect new information to something you already know
- Review your notes the same day you learn them
Organize Your Work
Being organized helps you stay calm and makes studying easier.
- Use folders or binders for each subject
- Write down assignments in a planner
- Keep your workspace clean and simple
- Check off tasks as you finish them
